So i have noticed an overclock optio in the hdmu center. Can someone explain its use?im guessing it will speed up the box, but im afraid it could brick. Is it safe to try?

Overclocking is at your own risk.

we do overclock since 3 years i think.
and i dont know about,that any box was bricked or damaged by overclocking.

so in my opinion its really save to try, you can try it step by step.

with the fastest step its possible, that the box is freezing. so try this at last.

but zeinis comment is right, its at your own risk.

ok ive set it to 710 (SH4), no noticeable increase in interface speed or anything like that. Is there a way for me to see what the effect is on my system?

Why do you want to OC your Box?

If it is too slow, OC, and test if it will be better. When it dosn't change, there may be another Problem.

Its absolutely unnecessary , but i'm always in for toying with settings and checking if things can get better ;)

the best thing for measuring the speed from the box, is the boot time.
you can stop the time with a clock :o

with full speed the box should boot minimum 5 sec faster.
the channel switching is a little bit faster.
plugins are opening little faster.

Ok these are the results of my tests on my sab triple unix ( i believe the box runs 450mhz without the hdmu image). The times measured are from turning the box on with the switch on the back untill getting an image on bbc1 (fta)

540 (default)-> 1min 19sec
630 ---------> 1min 15sec
710 ---------> 1min 14sec
775 ---------> 1min 13sec
800----------> 1min 11sec

So there is an 8 second difference between no overclock and full. Not an awfull lot :(
