atv builds telnetd standalone into busybox (busybox defconfig) and starts via inet.d/telnetd.busybox script
hdmu seems to start telnetd via inetd (check /etc/inetd.conf )

if i copy busybox.nosuid and the script from atv into hdmu, then telnet works.

EDIT: Actually, seems that telnetd is running

netstat -an |grep LISTEN

shows box is listening on port 23. (and when shutting down inetd, then box stops listening on 23 and other ports)
So to me it looks that telnetd is actually running. but it doesn't allow connections...
not sure something is missing in the busybox binary for the ME... (or incompatible with Defconfig for ME)
